Alternate Fuel For Transportation Sector

The transportation sector heavily relies on fossil fuels, which contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. To combat this, there are several alternative fuels such as biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen fuel cells, propane, and electric vehicles. These alternatives are cost-effective and environmentally friendly, as they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. By transitioning to these alternative fuels, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards a more sustainable future.
Transportation sectors are considered to be the major lead in fuel consumption. The most commonly used energy in the transportation sector is fossil fuels. Have you ever thought, why is the usage of fossil fuels higher than other energies? When we say other energies, what are there?
Energies are classified into two major sections one is the renewable and non-renewable resources.
You can see a lot of energy is surrounding us, but why is it hard to quit fossil fuels? And why is it widely used? Denser than other fuel resources; more denser provides more energy by volume.
We have a valid reason why we are using fossil fuel widely, so why do we need an alternative?
The rising price of fossil fuels and the large ability to produce carbon dioxide CO2 when burned compare with other fuels made people to find an alternate. When fossil fuels like oil, coal, and gas are burnt, we just don’t get our own energy needs. Also, we increase the modern global warming crisis. Carbon emission in the atmosphere brings a lot of disadvantages to every living thing on earth.
Governments and many industries worldwide came forward and took many steps to omit the greenhouse gas effect on earth from fossil fuels. Those steps to avoid carbon emission leads them to choose the usage of alternatives to fossil fuels.
Though there are a lot of energies other than fossil fuels, is everything used as an alternative to fossil fuels? No! There are only specific energies that work for vehicles; what are the alternates?
Biodiesel (or) Biofuel
Biodiesel/Biofuel comes under renewable energy that can be produced from plants like palm oil or soybean, algae, animal fats, or recycled from cooking oil. Biodiesel has a massive welcome in European countries. Biodiesel is mainly used for diesel engines by combining it with a small amount of fossil fuel.
Biofuel/ Biodiesel are cost-effective and environmental friendly by reducing greenhouse gas emissions because they are carbon neutral.
Ethanol
Ethanol is also known as ethyl alcohol which comes under renewable resource. Ethanol is made from biomass such as corn, wood, sugarcane, and different plant materials. You can also find ethyl alcohol in some beverages; what? Ethanol in edible items!!! Don’t get shocked; First-generation biofuel, ethanol, is used as edible items. Vehicles use ethanol when ethyl alcohol is blended with gasoline.
Ethanol fuel is considered a better replacement for gasoline. To replace 1 volume of fossil fuel energy (gasoline), it needs 1.5 volume of ethanol. Brazil is considered the main ethanol user though it has the perfect climate and geography to produce ethanol largely. Mostly the combination of 5%–10% of cellulosic ethanol with petroleum can be used in current vehicles engine without any modification.
Hydrogen Fuel cell
Hydrogen is used as fuel power by turning chemical energy into electrical energy. The united states encourage the development and use of hydrogen fuel cells in transportation due to zero-emission, also this hydrogen fuel cell is less competitive because it has explosive nature.
Hydrogen fuel cells generate electric power by separating electrons from hydrogen atoms. Mainly it is used in light-duty vehicles.
Propane
Propane or (LPG) Liquefied Petroleum Gas or propane autogas, is a widely used gas across the world since 1860. Plain propane compound or combined with liquid butane is commonly used as fuel for both commercial and domestic purposes. Using propane as fuel reduces air pollution in the environment and cost-effective.
Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles (EVs) are widely accepted alternatives to fuel vehicles, which has even more huge potential over 2030. Electric vehicles work entirely on batteries, which cause zero harmful gas emissions.
Many countries came forward to adopt EVs for both domestic and commercial purposes, and many governments encourage the usage of EVs by providing some offers to electric vehicle owners. It also costs low maintenance and easy to use. There many different types of electric vehicles in usage and know more about the facts and myths of electric vehicles.
The consumption of fossil fuels increases since 1900, and unfortunately, the world is hitting the global warming crisis. Now. We can clearly see the effects of global warming in real-time; the world’s largest iceberg, around 4,320 square kilometers, is broken in Antarctica in May 2021. The usage of gas-powered vehicles or electric vehicles, or any alternative to fossil fuel, controls fossil fuel consumption, global warming and leads the world to a better place of survival.
